snackin' around: august edition
a round up of all my fave bites n bevs during august
hey hey hello!
Welcome back for another month of snackin’ around, where I share all the best bites and bevs I had during the month + some misc faves and things that inspired me.
This one is a shortie (but I said that about the banana pudding intro which still managed to be a 7 minute read) because I moved this month!! Ugh finally. So, I’ve been baking + filming in my friend Nette’s kitchen for a couple of months and when a room in the house free’d up it just made sense. So, if you’re like didn’t you move? Why are you in the same kitchen- that’s why lol. It’s already so refreshing to have the kitchen where I work be in the house I live. I can’t wait to be able to share more recipe with ya guys now ♡ Right in time for “Q4” aka mf baking season!!
But, because I was packing and moving and still juggling working- I did not eat out and as many new, to me, spots as I normally do. Hence the shorty. But, the bites I do have here? All absolute S-tier foods!!
One favorite thing that happened this month was hittin’ 18,000 subscribers to this little slice of the internet :) Thank you so much for being here ♡ I truly appreciate each and everyone of you! Here’s to more recipes together 🥂
SAN DIEGO
The Friendly in North Park does a series of chef collabs- mostly boigas- and one miss Holly Haines was on the line up, I knew I couldn’t miss it. TWO smashed adobo pork patties, garlic sticky rice croquette, chayote slaw, calamansi/smoked peppercorn aioli. Incredibly flavorful, Holly knows how to pack a flavor punch. It wasn’t a burger that felt incredibly heavy despite having two pork patties and a fried rice croquette, the chayote slaw kept things light and fresh. Light n fresh enough for me to still have the space to indulge in my fave pep with jalapeno slice :)

The next two are from Min Sok Chon in Convoy- their old way wings and cheese corn are out of this world. The old bay wings are like lemon pepper wings x1000. The blend of flavors from the old bay with a hint of citrus and so crispy crunchy, I mean Korean fried chicken is always amazing. Their cheese corn is also amaze. It better be for $14 lol. I feel a little ridiculous explaining corn cheese to ya rn. But, it’s perfectly sweet from the corn and salty from the mozz. Idk man one of the better corn cheeses I’ve had in my day.

I’ll admit that I only go to a baseball game for the food, because don’t ask me who we played I barely paid attention1. Stadium food at Petco Park is actually pretty good- I dunno in comparison to a Dodger dog lolol. But, the pulled pork bbq fries from Grand Ole BBQ? You know its gonna be good because they use the psoriasis fries (the best typa fry). Topped with cheese and pulled pork then you can sauce ‘em up with your choice of bbq sauce. I’m just thankful to know Grand Ole BBQ has a location in North Park so I don’t have to go to spend $40 a game ticket the next time I want these fries.
Ok I love a freaky lil ice cream flavor and the summer series from Salt and Straw didn’t disappoint. The melon + prosciutto paired with the tomato leaf with olive brittle was my ideal spilt scoop. Sweet, salty and a little herby from the tomato leaf. The olive brittle was surprising tome because I’m not an olive girl, I’m actually pretty anti olive, it’s a texture thing not the flavor. But, it works so well in the brittle, the little bit of brineyness with the fruity flavor from the olives.
LOS ANGELES
I took a quick little day trip up to LA for a final fitting/alteration to my bridesmaid dress (September we are Greece bound baybeeee!!) I had time for one meal and boy was it gonna have to count. Casey and I went to Provecho Calimex in Culver. I got the Breakfast Burrito with carnitas and no egg. Which, I do not like eggs. I hate eggs. So, all my breakfast burrito endeavors are just “hey I’m having a burrito for breakfast.” The burrito here is so incredibly savory and well seasoned- on the saltier side but y’all know that’s my jam. The cheese is so so melty a big plus because my biggest pet peeve is a burrito with semi melted shreds of cold cheese on it. Would definitely recommend it.
AUGUST PLAYLIST
INSPIRATION STATION
A round of all the things, food or otherwise that inspired my during the month of August :)
Told ya guys it was a shorty! Let me know what things you we’re loving this month!!
Next month I’m in Greece, Copenhagen and London (!!!) So you can expect some city specific snackin’ around posts, outlining everything I ate (and experienced) in each city- the good, the mid, the bad. We’ll chat soon!!
Actually though- did pay attention, we played the Giants and WON. lil fun fact about me. I come from a big ole baseball family. My grandpa played minors for the Padres way back when and was even in the Hall of Champions museum in Balboa Park. Until a injury dashed this dreams of making it to the major league, actually, unlike most guys who could have “made it big” playing football.
