what you bring to the table
a round up of non-tradish friendsgiving bake inspo
hey hi hello!!
With friendsgiving festivities already in full swing and Thanksgiving swift approaching I find now a great time to remind you of some banger recipes that deserve a spotlight on your dessert tables. We’re leaning away from traditional pies and um yeah just pies this time of year it feels and considering things that are exponentially easier to prep? Things that can be made a couple of days in advance. Things that your pumpkin hating familiy members will find joy in.
Now, I am just spotlighting the things I’m most likely to bake up this month- but, should none of these tickle your fancy, you can totally peruse the bake chats recipe archive for some inspiration.
spiced chocolate creme brûlée

ok, I think a spiced chocolate moment is perfect in terms of transitioning your mind from late fall into the throes of winter. (even though, omg as I type this it’s 91F here in San Diego!!! Will I ever experience winter again??) You can size these down into smaller disposable foil ramekins to feed more of a crowd- just be sure to adjust your bake times.
obviousleEEEe, boneless skinless pumpkin pie would make an appearance on this list. Perfect for the girls who don’t like pie crust or at least the ones who say they don’t and they actually mean they’ve always kinda sucked at making pie crusts (that’s me). This baddie is the lush cream dream pumpkin pie wishes she was.
Maybe a pumpkin pie-esque flan isn’t your vibe, maybe due in part to the fact that I can’t stop calling it boneless and skinless and that freaks you out. Any flan would make for a great addition to your tables this year, but especially this pyschocandy tea infused flan- with notes of caramel, apple, pumpkin and rooibos… it *actually* screams fall flavor.
She’s a porject but boy does she WOW a crowd. Honestly, kinda perfect because passion fruit season is coming back into full swing right about now. The tart flavor from the passion fruit will surely bring your palette back to life.
Sticking with the passion fruit theme. Right, I want to see more layer cakes in holiday spreads, you can literally cram so much flavor into them. Like, do not feel limited to this one (though like, I think she’s pretty frickin’ great) ANY layer cake makes a great dessert addition.
Classic adjacent here. An earthier take on your classic carrot cake. The turmeric spiced blend enhances the flavor of the cake and the blended nuts make this cake moist. capital M Moist!! You can also never go wrong with a brown butter cream cheese situation on top. This recipe makes a single layer cake, but def feel free to double it for a two layer moment.
It’s funny because I developed this brown butter banana pudding with end of summer BBQs in mind but so so many of you are already adding this to your friendsgiving tables. The size of this one alone is perfect for serving a crowd. You can also divvy the pudding up into individual serving glasses too for more of a grab and go situation.
We now enter the tiramisu portion of the night. Perfect for holiday gatherings because it’s very easy to scale up for bumpin’ parties or keep small for intimate friendly gatherings. Cannoli is a fun take on the classic dessert :)
BTW- If you swap out the classic mascarpone egg mixture for the brown butter bavarian from the banana pudding recipe you’ll be rocking the best of both worlds here.
The last tiramisu on the list, but the addition of kinako powder to the filling makes for a subtly nutty experience. Another crowd please that can be made a couple of days ahead of your celebrations as well. So one less thing to worry about day of!
Finally, if you’re going for minimal effort maximum impact- go with a panna cotta. She’s incredibly versatile and can be prepped days ahead of your party. Infinitely customizable too. The thai tea could be fun. But, so could infusing the base with the pyschocandy tea we used in the flan earlier. A simply pumpkin spiced version. Also, so incredibly to scale this recipe up and down to meet your needs.
With that I set you off on your journey to bring something new to the holiday table :) I have a few more recipes set to come out for you these next two week s- which are also going to be great options for ya, so be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already.
