My dad is undoubtedly my rock. He is my personal mechanic, repair/handyman, spider killer, and sometimes math teacher (until we end up fighting over geometry formulas and I’m crying over the textbook at the kitchen table… aka my entire HS experience you know). Without him, there is no me, without me there is no cute little cakes- so honestly thank him for his contribution to society.
There’s so much of my life growing up with him that is so prevalent in what I create today. When I was younger, at Christmastime we would prep and bake off dozens of cookies to give to family and neighbors. In particular, chocolate chip walnut cookies with Captain Morgan (The bottle of Cap that has lived in the garage for the past 10 years, is mostly water now I have to admit, sorry dad) in place of vanilla extract. Which is probably in direct correlation with why I am unable to keep a recipe as is…
I also, basically grew up on the Circuit City retail floor. My dad worked doing stereo installs, since we didn’t have reliable and affordable child care, my sister and I would spend hours in break rooms and running rampant through the aisles. Sitting way too close to the big screen TVs on display, rolling on the product rollers, bothering my dad’s coworkers every chance we got. One place you could always find me on the floor was at the new album release board. Which was this switch board with a few pairs of headphones that you could sample songs from new albums on. Looking back, putting headphones that had been on soooo many different ears on my head is, disgusting.. But, I would spend hours there pressing buttons to hear everything from Britney Spears to Creed to BBMak to Matchbox Twenty to Erykah Badu and everything in between. Now I have this deep love for creating tons of playlists touching every genre, and I like to this the time I spent at the new release board is what sparked this joy. I’ve got this special curation of songs that remind me of spending days in the car driving to and from soccer games/practice with my dad :)
The OC/SD Father’s Day box is my last one of the month BUT but buuuut I do have a very special pop-up planned for the following week at Our Place in Venice (!!!!) I’m absolutely geekin’ it over here because I’m obsessed with Our Place!! I have the Always Pan & Perfect Pot, which I use for everything- like before getting a tabletop fryer that pot was the place to fry off donuts!! They’re debuting their first appliance- The Wonder Oven, which is part toaster oven, part air frier and all convenient.
The pop-up will be Sunday June 25th from 12-3PM or until sell out at The Our Place store in Venice- 1344 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA 90291. I’m still finalizing the menu, because I want it to be absolutely perfect for y’all. But, you can expect cake, donuts, a cookie or two and a lot of awkward smiles, hugs and handshakes (I’m far less cool IRL sorry to break it to you). The full menu will be up in a few days over on Insta. I can’t wait to meet and feed all of you!
